For Robin & Mike, this build was about turning a long-held dream into something real: the freedom to get off-grid, unplug, and spend extended time exploring at their own pace. Built on a 2025 Mercedes Sprinter 170” AWD, their van was designed from the ground up to be a comfortable, capable basecamp for wherever the road—or trail—takes them.

The interior reflects that same connection to the outdoors. Warm wood tones, soft neutrals, and natural colors create a calm, inviting space that feels at home in the landscapes surrounding it. Rather than competing with the view outside, the finishes were intentionally chosen to complement it, giving the van a relaxed, organic feel and creating a peaceful place to return to at the end of a day spent exploring. The wood countertops were fabricated from Honey Locust trees that were harvested from their own property!

Inside, the layout prioritizes comfortable everyday living with a collapsible north/south bed, a spacious kitchen, generous storage, and a full interior shower. The kitchen features a large Isotherm refrigerator/freezer, two-burner induction cooktop, Ninja Foodi 6-in-1 Toaster and undermount sink. Two heated fresh water tanks totaling over 50 gallons, on-demand hot water, and Compo Closet S1 dry-flush toilet give Robin & Mike the independence to stay out longer and venture farther from traditional campgrounds.

That focus on independence carries through to the electrical system. A 460Ah Epoch lithium battery bank, 2,000W Xantrex inverter/charger, 400 watts of solar, and a high-output Arco ZEUS secondary alternator provide multiple ways to keep the van powered while traveling or parked off-grid. Climate control comes from a Rixen MCS7 hydronic system with diesel furnace and a Dometic RTX 2000 12V air conditioner, making the van well equipped for travel through changing seasons and climates.

Outside, the Sprinter’s factory AWD is complemented by an Owl Vans Arrow suspension package and Nitto Terra Grappler tires for added capability beyond the pavement. A Flatline Van Co. roof rack, Fiamma F45S awning, and side ladder add functionality while maintaining a clean, purposeful exterior.

More than anything, Robin & Mike’s van was built around freedom—the ability to head somewhere remote, stay awhile, and truly unplug. Every part of the build, from its off-grid systems to its warm, nature-inspired interior, works toward that goal: creating a space that allows them to slow down, settle in, and enjoy wherever they happen to be.
