Laurie & Tom

2024 Mercedes Sprinter

170” Wheelbase

Laurie & Tom’s build was designed with one goal in mind—make it easy to get out there and stay out there. This van blends rugged exterior capability with a clean, comfortable interior, giving them the freedom to travel confidently in all conditions.

On the outside, this van is built to handle real use. It sits on Black Rhino wheels wrapped in Falken Wildpeak tires, paired with a Van Compass suspension upgrade that transforms both ride quality and off-road capability. Up front, an FVC bumper with integrated lighting adds protection and visibility, while AMP power steps make access easy no matter where you park.

Out back is one of the standout features of the build—the Aluminess PowerLift Bike Rack. This setup makes carrying bikes effortless while still allowing full rear door access, keeping the van functional without compromising on gear.

A full roof rack system and Fiamma awning round out the exterior, creating a versatile setup for everything from quick stops to extended stays.

Inside, the van was designed to feel open, functional, and comfortable for everyday living. The layout centers around a fixed rear bed with a custom RoamRest mattress, creating a dedicated sleeping space while maintaining a highly usable garage below. Thoughtful storage solutions and slide-out components make it easy to access gear without sacrificing organization.

The kitchen is simple and refined, featuring an Isotherm refrigerator, induction cooktop, Corian countertops, and grain matched Maple details that add warmth and character throughout the space. Every element is designed to be intuitive and durable for life on the road.

In the bathroom, a fully enclosed shower with clean tile work and a Dry Flush toilet provides true off-grid capability without overcomplicating the space. It’s a practical setup that keeps things comfortable while maintaining flexibility in the layout.

This van is powered by a robust electrical system built around Battle Born lithium batteries, Victron components, and a secondary alternator for charging on the go. Shore power and 400 watts of solar round out the system, ensuring reliable power whether parked or driving.

For climate control, Laurie & Tom opted for a Rixen’s MCS7 hydronic system for heat and on demand hot water, paired with a Dometic RTX2000 12V air conditioner. This combination keeps the van comfortable in all seasons without relying on hookups.

Throughout the build, the focus was on clean finishes and smart details—from the Lonwood flooring to the ceiling lighting and custom cabinetry. Nothing feels overdone, but everything has a purpose.

This van is a great example of what happens when capability and simplicity come together. It’s ready for long trips, weekend getaways, and everything in between—built to make travel easier so Laurie & Tom can focus on what matters most: getting out there and enjoying it.
